Breakout Session #1: 10:15 a.m - 11:05 a.m. - choose one

Using Flexbooks to Support Instruction

Participants will be provided with support in the development of e-Books across multiple formats to support the Ohio Learning Standards while using free resources. The e-Books are completely customizable to meet your instructional needs. Level: Middle. High.

Using Digital Tools to Grow Problem-Based Learners

Students learn from each other. Outside of school they share information constantly. Why not take advantage of their communication skills by teaching them how to share school work effectively through differentiation and collaboration? Peer student review and critiquing will get students excited about group work. This session will present several Problem Based Learning strategies designed to promote 21st Century Education. Digital Assessment in a 1:1 Classroom

This presentation will model and demonstrate a number of tools used for 1:1 assessment, from polling to testing, these tools are web based and cross platform. Level: Middle. High.

Preparing Students for Success in a Blended Learning Environment

Learn from the success of an award winning blended learning program as it grows in implementation. The largest area for growth is in the onboarding of students to prepare them for success in a dramatically different instructional environment. The myth of the "digital native" has warped the perception of student abilities, but students need to be shown discrete skills while still being allowed to explore. Teaching Digital Citizenship Through Blended Learning

According to digitalcitizenship.net, digital citizenship is the norms of appropriate, responsible technology use. Too often, students, as well as adults, are misusing and abusing technology innocently due to lack of knowledge. What is considered appropriate technology usage? This session will provide an overview of the 9 elements of digital citizenship and how this curriculum is being stressed and disseminated from the national to the local level. The session will conclude with a Q/A and brainstorming on how educators can incorporate these elements into an entire school or single classroom. Level: High.

1:1 Best Practices with iPads

For teachers, administrators, and curriculum directors who are exploring ways to implement iPads in a 1:1 setting, this session will highlight best practices in connecting learners, creating content, and collaborating. Presenters will also share how to use the iPad as an easy to use all-in-one solution for exploring learning with interactive multimedia presentations and how to develop a related Student Advisory Council. Using Comic Books to Teach Literary Concepts

Comic books are big with students' courses and popular content for movies! Why not use that influence and popularity to teach our youth about literary concepts? Comic books are very rich with imagery, dialogue, characterization, and plot. With the program, comiclife.com, teachers have the ability to transform students into comic book characters while mastering literary concepts. Join in an adventure of learning how to teach with the use of comic books. Level: Middle.

Digital Bootcamp: Engaging and Educating the Digital Natives

Focus on utilizing the iPad and other technologies to design effective instruction, engage all students in exciting and authentic learning opportunities, differentiate, create student learning communities and foster a greater sense parent and community involvement. Participants will understand how to utilize technology to teach in a more efficient and engaging style that meets the needs of diverse digital learners. They will also be able to apply strategies from this session to address the CCSS and authentically assess student learning. Level: Primary. Intermediate. Middle.

Engaging Students and the New Digital Literacies

The digital world continues to change how students learn and how teachers can teach. Teachers have access to an incredible array of tools to increase student engagement, but often struggle to implement these tools effectively. Today's students are challenged to learn how to read, write, speak, and create differently than ever before. This presentation will address the new learning needs and capabilities of modern students. The presenters will show how these new forms of literacy are changing instruction, assessments, and classroom dynamics. Presenters in this session will demonstrate how to use a variety of new digital tools in a 1:1, iPad, and BYOT classroom environment to increase engagement, foster growth and inspire creativity. Creating 21st Century Assignments: Autonomous Mastery Learning

How can essential questions, digitized lectures, student research, collaboration, student blogging, historical fiction, self paced learning and mastery come together to change teaching and learning in the classroom? Using constructivist methodology, flipped teaching, and free applications an educator can provide students with the opportunity to guide their own learning. During this session, participants will learn techniques,ideas and strategies of how to create 21st century assignments. This session represents the culmination of seven years of reflection and refinement concerning methodology and unit planning. Level: Middle. High.
